Painters in Paddington
Paddington is one of the most intact Victorian terrace precincts in the country, and the heritage controls that come with that are the first thing to establish — not the last. Colour here is a conversation with council as often as it is a conversation about taste.

Can I paint my Paddington terrace any colour I like?
Not always, and it is worth knowing before you fall in love with a colour. Inside a conservation area, a contributory building's street-facing scheme can be conditioned by council, and what is exempt for a like-for-like repaint may not be for a change of scheme. What do you do with the iron lacework?
Treat it as ironwork rather than as decoration to be coated. That means checking it for rust from the back and the fixings, dealing with what we find, and building the system up from a primer suited to the metal. Laying fresh paint straight over a bubbling section looks right for a season and then tells on you.
The ground floor is a shop and we live upstairs. Can you do both?
Yes, and they usually want sequencing rather than doing at once. The retail frontage is planned around trading hours so the shop is presentable each morning; the residential floors run to a normal day. The one thing we sort out first is a single access route that does not put drop sheets through the shop.
