McGill Painting, ABN 27 797 379 623, Licence No. 486 083 C. We're a painting business working across Sydney's inner city, inner west & eastern suburbs. This policy covers this website and the quote form on it.

When you send a quote request, we receive:

• your name;
• your phone number and email address — you need to give at least one of them, or we have no way to reply;
• the suburb the work is in;
• the type of work, the property type and your rough timeframe;
• if you choose to fill them in: a budget range, how you heard about us, and whatever you write in the job details box;
• how you'd prefer to be contacted;
• any photos you attach.

That's the whole list. There are no accounts or logins on this site, we never ask for payment or card details here, and there is no newsletter to be signed up to.

Please don't include anything sensitive in the job details box — it's there for describing the work.

To price your job and get back to you about it. That's the only reason we ask.

We don't sell it, rent it, or hand it to anyone for advertising, and we don't use it to market to you later.

There's no admin dashboard behind this site — a quote request is emailed straight to us, and that email is where it lives. That's also why photo links in it stay usable for a while (see below).

We use Vercel's Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which count page views and measure loading speed without cookies and without building a profile of you — we see totals for the site, not individuals.

We also use Google Analytics, so we can see which pages and services people actually read and where they lose interest. It sets cookies on your device and tells us things like which page you arrived on, which links you followed, roughly which city you're in (worked out from your IP address) and what kind of device you're using. Google's ad-personalisation features are switched off on our Analytics property, so what Analytics collects isn't used to target ads at you.

We advertise on Google, so the site also loads Google Adsconversion tracking. If you arrived from one of our ads it sets cookies that let Google tell us the ad worked — that a visit, and any quote request that followed, came from that ad. That's how we know whether advertising is worth paying for. It also means Google can recognise your browser on other sites carrying the same tag, which is how online advertising works generally. You can turn personalised ads off for every site in Google's ad settings, and any ad or content blocker stops the tag loading at all.

When a quote request is sent successfully we record that one was sent, along with the type of work, the property type, your rough timeframe and how many photos were attached. We never send your name, phone number, email address, suburb or job details to Google — sending Google personal details is against their rules and against ours.

If you'd rather not be counted, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on that works on every site, and most ad or content blockers stop it too. Neither affects your ability to use this site or send us a quote request.

We use Microsoft Clarityto see how the site is really used — it records anonymised playbacks of page activity (scrolling, clicks and taps) and turns them into heatmaps, which is how we find the parts that confuse people. Clarity masks what you type into form fields, so your name, phone number and job details don't appear in a playback. We have not connected Clarity to Microsoft Advertising, so it isn't used to target ads at you. Microsoft's privacy statement covers what they do with it.

The quote form is protected by Vercel BotID, which checks whether a submission looks automated so we're not buried in spam.

We use a small number of providers to actually run the site:

• Vercel — hosting, plus the analytics and bot filtering described above.
• Supabase— stores your quote request and any photos you attach. Photos go in a private bucket that isn't publicly listable or browsable.
• Microsoft — Clarity, the session playbacks and heatmaps described above.
• Resend — sends us the notification email containing your request.
• Google — Google Analytics and Google Ads, as described above. We also fetch our own Google review rating and count to show on the site; that call happens on our server and sends Google nothing about you.

These providers store data on servers that may be outside Australia. They handle it on our behalf, to provide their service to us — not for their own purposes.

We keep quote requests for as long as they may still be useful — repainting work often comes back around years later, and having the original details saves you repeating them. If you'd rather we didn't, ask and we'll delete it.

Photos you attach are kept with the request. Photos that get uploaded but never submitted are deleted automatically by a daily cleanup. The download links in our notification email stop working after 1 year.

Analytics is separate and much shorter-lived: the visit data Google Analytics holds is set to be deleted after 14 months.

Email us or call 0474 475 310 and ask. Roughly when you got in touch is enough for us to find it.

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to fix something that's wrong, or ask us to delete it. There's no charge and you don't have to give a reason. We aim to sort it out within 30 days.

The site is served over HTTPS. Quote requests go into a database that isn't publicly readable — only our server can reach it. Photos sit in a private bucket and are only accessible through time-limited links.

No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. But we collect as little as we can, which is the part that matters most.

Being straight with you about where we stand legally: under the Privacy Act 1988(Cth), most small businesses with an annual turnover of AU$3 million or less are not “APP entities” and aren't legally bound by the Australian Privacy Principles. We're under that threshold and don't trade in personal information or handle tax file numbers, so that exemption applies to us.

We're telling you what we do anyway. Partly because the hosting and analytics providers we use require it, and mostly because you're entitled to know what happens to your details when you ask a tradesperson for a price. If that exemption ever stops applying to us, we'll update this page and say so.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, tell us first — we'd rather fix it. The national regulator is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, though as above, the Principles it enforces generally don't apply to a business our size.
